I was practicing the high parts on the song Take on Me by A-ha in the backyard.  I know if I practice enough I will impress everyone with my range.  I just know there will be a day when I'll do kaoroke and it will wow the crowd.  Dropped jaws will fill the room along with shouts to join American Idol.  In the meantime I practice in the backyard partly to secretly impress the neighbors.  I start low with 'Take on Meee'.  Then I pick it up a notch with 'Take meee  oooon'.  'I'll be there'.  Here is where I shine....'And into Your Dreeeams'.  



I check to see if anyone is looking at me.  I wonder whether it was a high enough pitch that I broke someone's glasses or an discarded glass bottle down the street.  I look around to see if anything shattered.  Instead I usually see a smattering of earthworms writhing around the ground.  I think they came from the depths of the earth to hear me sing.  I see smiles on their faces although I can't tell which end has their face.  I also get a few good natured comments from passers-by and neighbors that I halfheartedly chuckle at just to mask what I really feel .  Deep down I know they can't wait for each of my practice sessions.  I strut back to the house with new vigor.  We all have gifts to give the world.  Mine comes in an off-the-music-scale C sharp.
